Chen Yihan was the second prize winner of the Young Composers Competition hosted by the National Association of Composers/USA.

Chen Yihan will be attending Princeton University in the Ph.D. program in music composition beginning in Fall 2018. 

 

Chàngqiāng 1 "Our Outcry" for cello and piano, commissioned by China Remixed, a global arts & humanities festival hosted by Indiana University Bloomington, will be premiered on April 6, 2017 at Indiana University Arts Museum. "Phantasms" for sinfonietta, as well as song cycle "Vanished Through Time", will also be performed. 

 

Dust for orchestra was performed by the Juilliard Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Jeffrey Milarsky on Monday, April 3, 8pm in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, New York City. 

 

Chen Yihan was a recipient of the ASCAP Foundation 2017 Morton Gould Young Composer Awards. 

 

Chen Yihan's Two Hokkien Songs from Taiwan was premiered on March 24, 2017 by Max Tan and Jung-a Bang at the Juilliard School. 

 

Chen Yihan's choral work Shui Guang Lian Yan was awarded 2nd place in The American Prize in Composition—Choral (student division) and his piano sonata Spirits - River was awarded 2nd place in The American Prize in Composition—Chamber (student division). 

 

Chen Yihan was one of the four winners of the 2017 annual Juilliard Orchestra Composition Competition. 

 

Music-Drama Vulnerable City was premiered on March 19, 2017 at the Juilliard School by soprano Jessica Niles and pianist Chris Reynolds as a part of the OperaComp project at Juilliard. 

 

Described as “colorful” and “incisive” by the Oregon Artswatch, Chen Yihan was the featured pianist at “The Clearing”, a contemporary piano festival presented by Portland Piano International, in which he also performed piano four-hands with internationally celebrated pianists Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Tamara Stefanovich. 

 

Chen Yihan graduated from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in summer of 2016 with bachelor of music degrees in both composition and piano. He will begin his master's degree in composition at the Juilliard School in New York City in fall, studying with Christopher Rouse

 

Chen Yihan's mini song cycle Two Songs for Yulin was performed by Yu Yulin and Katherine Altizer in "Yulin Yu: International Students Welcome Concert" on Aug. 11, 2016 at the Indiana University Art Museum. 

 

Chen Yihan's senior recital in piano took place in April, 2016 at Recital Hall, Jacobs School of Music.

 

Chen Yihan's mini song cycle Two Songs for Yulin was premiered by Yu Yulin and Nicholas Ho in Yu Yulin's solo voice recital on Feb. 26, 2016 at the Indiana University Art Museum. 

 

Chen Yihan was one of the featured composers at "East Meets West: A Concert of New Chinese Music" in the Indiana University Art Museum on Jan. 31, 2016, performing the piano sonata Spirits - River on piano and a song from the song cycle Vanished Through Time with Yin Yue. 

 

Chen Yihan senior recital in composition took place in November, 2015, premiering Phantasms for sinfonietta, as well as the piano sonata Spirits - River.

 

Vanished Through Time for soprano and piano received the 2015 IU Jacobs School of Music Dean's Prize for the undergraduate category. 

 

"Solemn Rites" – Daqu No. 1 for Orchestra was premiered by China National Opera House Symphony Orchestra at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, China in October 2015.

 

Shui Guang Lian Yan (Ripples Glisten Away...) was premiered by Cantoría Hong Kong in the Hong Kong City Hall on March 31, 2015.
